Art as the voice of truth and an instrument of peace

The photographs in this exhibition were taken by Werner Eismann during his trip through Ukraine after the large-scale invasion began. Through his camera, he shows the destruction and suffering that Russian aggression has brought to the Ukrainian countryside.

As Mr Eismann himself says:

Hearing about the war in Ukraine is one thing. But it is something completely different to travel there and meet the people who live there.

This trip not only changed his perspective, but also inspired him to write a song, which you can listen to here: Video.

Culture as a connecting element between people and nations

War means destruction – but culture means construction. Through art, we not only preserve the memory of events, but also create a foundation for dialogue, understanding and peace. This exhibition is more than just a collection of photographs; it is a reminder to the world about the price of freedom.

Werner Eismann is not only a photographer, but also a committed supporter of Ukraine. For years, he has been helping schools, orphanages and charitable organisations. In spring 2024, he personally delivered 500 Easter gifts to children in Odessa, which we collected together with you. You can find out more here: Marburg schenkt Ostern 2024.

We cordially invite you to the exhibition!

Don’t remain indifferent – come and see Ukraine through the eyes of a contemporary witness and experience how culture can be an instrument for peace.

Together, through culture, we can shape a future without war!
