When art talks about peace: exhibition of Ukrainian children’s drawings in St Elisabeth’s Church

On 8 September 2024, a special exhibition of Ukrainian children’s drawings opened in the historic Elisabeth Church in Marburg This event was not only an opportunity to admire the works of young artists, but also a powerful sign that art is a language of peace, hope and connection
In a world full of uncertainties, art becomes a bridge between hearts Each drawing by our young artists shows not only childlike light-heartedness, but also a deep belief in a better future These works are the voice of a generation that dreams of a world without war, of security and a happy childhood
The exhibition is the result of the painting group, which was brought to life thanks to the initiative of MAVKA – Deutsch-Ukrainischer Verein e.V. and the creative community ‘Mit der Ukraine im Herzen’ (With Ukraine in the Heart) Under the guidance of art teacher Anna Dmitrieva, the children learnt to express their feelings, dreams and experiences through art – their works became windows to their world

What do the children’s drawings tell us?
Each picture speaks of a bright future, of peace and home, as the children see it. They drew their Ukraine, their families, favourite places and symbols of hope and light.
Visitors to the exhibition were able to:
- Experience the atmosphere of peace and inspiration in the historic church
- See how children express their dreams and feelings through art
- Supporting Ukrainian culture and its young artists
All guests were also treated to fragrant tea and homemade cakes – because culture and hospitality create a space for encounters and mutual understanding.
Art is more than just pictures – it creates a place of community, compassion and hope for a better future.
A big thank you to everyone who took part in this special event and supported Ukrainian culture in Germany!
